HELVETIC THUNDERS

ABOUT US

We are a virtual display team, founded in 2021, flying on one of the most realistic combat simulator, the digital combat simulator, in short DCS. We held our first airshow as part of the Swiss Community Flight 2022. Our team includes nine F/A18C Hornets, but only six fly in the display team.

We train at least once a week to improve our skills and achieve a good performance.

The fictitious painting of our F18 fighter jets is adapted to the Swiss national colors and reflects our origin, as well as the large edelweiss which is covering large parts of the aircraft.

OUR TEAM

#1 Dominic “Tinderli” Näf

Tinderli has been with us since the beginning and has taken on the demanding task of Formation’s Leader from the very beginning.

As the Formation Leader he is in charge of giving precise commands to ensure a professional display.

#2 Alex “Warmachine” Krieg

Warmachine continues to amaze us with his quick adaptation of formations and his rapid integration into the team shortly after Swiss Community Flight 2022. He has become a reliable and valuable team member.

Warmachine flies on the right side of our leader.

#3 Michael “Nitro” Reeg

Nitro, who is now flying for us in position 3, was very quickly integrated into the team with his humorous and upbeat manner and has become an important part of our team. We are grateful to him for finding time to fly with us in addition to leading another display team.

Nitro flies at the left side of our leader.

#4 Laurin “Bolterboy” Helt

Bolterboy has been with the Helvetic Thunders since the beginning and is therefore also a member of our staff. He and his staff colleagues additionally take care of non-flying administrative work, such as participation in events, maintenance of our paint scheme, etc.

In the display team he flies directly behind the leader in the slot position.

#5  Levin “Losti” Ruppert

Losti is like Bolterboy, since the beginning in the team and in the staff of the Helvetic Thunders Team. His work on the staff is similar to Bolterboys. He is a member of the team since the beginning.

Losti flies at the left holdin-hands-position. A difficult position as the left wingman needs a steady hand while flying.

#6 Mika “Simba” von Arx

Simba is our man when it comes to designing the paint scheme for our planes or ground vehicles, as well as creating missions that make it easier for us to fly and train. Simba in the Staff and like his Staff colleagues in the Helvetic Thunders Team since the beginning.

Simba flies like Losti at the holding hands position, and also enjoys a steady hand from the right wingman.

#7 Alain “Pirastro” Canonica

Pirastro, our former number 3 or a manufacturer of musical strings. This suggests that, apart from flying, his passion is music. Due to time constraints, he unfortunately had to take a step back with us, but he is still part of our team.

#8 Matthias “Mazze” Wettstein

Mazze is our all-rounder pilot and helps us out at all kinds of positions when we need it.

Mazze has been part of our team since the last Swiss Community Flight in 2022. We are always happy to have him with us.

#9 Roger “Birdi” Adler

Birdi is our former #2. Since the change to the Swiss Jet Team he has handed over his position to Warmachine.

Birdi flies with us from time to time and can also take over any position in the formation. Because of his position in the Swiss Jet Team we always like to learn something from him.
